There are a number of ways in which residency can be obtained for yourself and your accompanying family members.
- Residency from Work:
If you have held a Talent Work / Sports, Arts or Culture visa / permit or occupied a Priority List occupation for at least 24 months. You may also work to residency initially starting with a Temporary work permit.
- Family Category:
You must have lived in a genuine and stable relationship with a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and be lawfully in New Zealand for at least 12 months.
- Investor, Entrepreneur, Relocating Business Employee:
These permits are normally event based. Once certain criteria are met the permanent residency is granted.
- Skilled Visa:
An applicant submits an expression of interest. The assessment of this application is made and you may be offered either a work visa (then later apply for residency) or residency.

Citizenship
You may apply for citizenship after holding permanent residency and living in New Zealand for 5 years, or if you are married to a New Zealand citizen you are required to have been living in New Zealand for 2 years.
The New Zealand government allows you to have duel citizenship.
