New Zealand and Australia Visa - Tourist
visa processes: The process of obtaining a visa for Australia and New Zealand
can be a complex process. Even the Tourist visa can be complex. The following are some issues you should
consider when applying for the Tourist visa. Please note: only in very rare situations can a Tourist visa
be converted to another type of visa.
The New Zealand visa Visitor Visa class: The visa (called a permit in New Zealand) can be obtained when
you arrive at the airport in New Zealand, if you are traveling with a "visa free country" passport. This
visa allows you to remain in New Zealand for tourism, visiting friends and relatives and business. The
business activities allowed include attending meetings or conducting research. You cannot earn income
or any reward for business activities whilst in New Zealand when granted this permit/visa. The current
list of these visa free countries is located via the following link

Best check your passport status against the details on this web page well in advance of any ticket purchase
and making travel plans. If your passport country is not on this list or you fall under a category that may
result in a visa rejection (see later in this article), you may need assistance from an immigration professional.

Australia has a different system for Tourist visas and Short Term Business visas. A maximum of a 3 month stay can
be applied for under this Electronic Visa Scheme and you may only apply when you are outside Australia (although you will get a 12 month visa, you can only be in
Australia on any one visit for 3 months). The conditions barring you from earning any reward in Australia
are similar to New Zealand for these visas. These visas and the conditions attached to these Australian visas
can be found at the following link - Australia Visa. When
completing you application on-line, if you find that you are ineligible for this visa you will be advised of
this situation. You will then be advised to contact the nearest Australian Immigration Office and perhaps a
Registered Migration Agent. You can get this visa only when you are outside Australia. Again, like New Zealand,
check your passport status and your status well in advance of any ticket purchase and making travel plans.

An Immigration Professional can research your status and eligibility if you have any concerns. If you do not
meet the criteria of these stream line passport holder processes, you may be eligible for a tourist visa or
business visa, but have to submit documentation in support of your application. Please note: Noel Hewitt Associates LLC no longer processes New Zealand visa applications. In North America this process is now carried out by New Zealand government officals located in various consulates and the New Zealand embassy.
Generally, the following are reasons for a visa being rejected:
If you have health issues, an adverse Police record, have a background that New Zealand or Australian
authorities may consider unacceptable (you will not know this until you try to enter the country and your
name is picked up on the immigration computer systems) or been previously excluded from entry to any country.
You will also be denied entry to Australia or New Zealand once you arrive if immigration authorities suspect
that you are not a legitimate tourist or short term business person who will depart the country within 3 months
of arrival or will breach the visa conditions by activities such working and being paid whilst you are in the
country. Supplying False or incorrect information are grounds for visa cancellation and possibly deportation,
even if the error was unintentional. Visa applicants will also be denied entry if they cannot show they have
sufficient funds to support themselves or adequate health insurance. Passports need at least 6 months validity
as of date of entry. In urgent situations and with prior approval from the various immigration departments, the
6 month validity can be waived.
When you arrive at the airport, if the Immigration Officers suspect you of not having a valid visa because of
incorrect information being provided or suspects you will breach visa conditions, you will have your visa
cancelled at the airport and be subject to immediate removal (technically speaking you do not legally arrive
in a country until you leave the airport terminal)
* Australian citizens and Australia permanent residents have different visa requirements for staying and working
in New Zealand. New Zealand citizens (not New Zealand permanent residents) have special arrangements when
traveling to Australia. Please note: if you are a New Zealand permanent resident you do not have automatic
entry into Australia. Check the sites mentioned in this section for current requirements.
Potential applicants are advised to contact Noel Hewitt Associates LLC concerning any issue that may have implications for their Australia visa application. These issues may be evidentiary requirements showing the strength of the relationship, Police clearances, health issues or processing issues. From our experience we can assess this 'strength' and identify possible alternative options. Delays in processing can occur where issues concerning any application are not identified at an early stage. It is in everyone's interest that issues be identified at an early stage so that if it is possible to obtain a visa, these issues can be addressed by policy and legislation.
